I like to add that the majority of WordPress themes have jquery implemented, without being maintained anymore. This is not a positive aspect.
Said this regarding the >90% usage.
It's not "used", because a great part is just an unmaintained legacy.

Keeping in mind that jQuery had a lot of security issues here and then, this might not be the best thing either to have legacy code around.
